2004 EWMC Meeting

The 14th Annual meeting starts on Thursday, January 15th, 2004. Please pre-register now! the deadline to pre-register is January 6, 2004.

Pre-Conference Workshops begin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, and include a special workshop for EWMC Chapter Presidents and EWMC Advisory Committee members, and a New Member Orientation.

The Opening Plenary Session begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning. Plenary sessions, workshops, panel discussions, and formal EWMC business will be conducted Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Awards Banquet and Scholarship presentation will be Saturday evening, and the Conference will end no later then 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The registration fee is $190.00, and includes meeting materials, the banquet dinner on Saturday, plus 2004 EWMC membership dues ($40.00).

Article IV, Section 4 requires payment of the current year's membership dues before admission to the meeting.

Hotel

The Conference hotel is the Hilton New York, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10019. Please make your hotel reservations now! Contract the Hilton to make your sleeping room reservations: www.hilton.com or 1-800-HILTONS.

The special EWMC room rate is $135.00 for a single or double room and is available January 13th - 19th. the rates are subject to tax and assessment; currently at 13.65%. The rate is available on a first come first serve basis. Please mention the Electrical Workers Meeting (EWMC) when making your room reservations. December 30, 2003, is the hotel's reservation cutoff date. Please contact the hotel now to make certain that you qualify for the special EWMC room rate.

Bylaws Amendments

In accordance with the provisions of Article IX, Section 2, proposed Bylaws Amendments and proposed Resolutions must be received at PO Box 642, El Cerrito, CA 94530, no later then January3, 2004.

Officer Elections

Please review the following excerpts from the EWMC Operating Bylaws. Officers will be elected at the 2004 EWMC National Meeting in January.

Article VII - Officers - Elections

Section 1

The Officers of the EWMC shall be:

A.   President

B.   Vice-President

C.   Secretary/Treasurer

D.   Eight (8) At-Large Executive Committee Members (Amended 1/02)

Section 2
The above listed Officers shall make up the Executive Committee of the EWMC.

Section 3
Nomination and election of Officers of the EWMC shall be held at the national membership meeting in january 1992, and every three (3) years, thereafter.

Section 4
Officers of the EWMC shall be elected to serve a three-year term.

Section 5
In order to be eligible to hold an office in the EWMC, a member must meet the following criteria:

A.   Should be a Business Manager or President of his or her Local Union.

B.   If he or she is not the current Business Manager or President of his or her Local Union, the member shall make written notification to the current President/Business Manager of the respective Local Union stating that he or she has been elected to serve on the EWMC Executive Committee, and request complete cooperation from the Local. A copy of the written request and written response shall be forwarded to the Secretary/Treasurer no later then thirty (30) days after the election of the Executive Committee member or new officers of the Local Union, whichever is appropriate. (Added 1/98)

C.   If a member of the Executive Committee is defeated in his or her Local Union election, removed from an appointed position, resigns from office or fails to comply with the provisions of Article VII, Section 5(b); he or she may be disqualified from continued service as an Officer.

Such vacancy shall be filled in accordance with the provision of Article VII, Section 9. (Added 1/98)

D.   Officers may succeed themselves.

E.   No Executive Committee member shall use their position as an Officer of the EWMC for political purposes within their Local Union or International Union.

No more than three (3) Officers of the EWMC can serve from the same IBEW Vice-President District. (Amended 1/98)

F.   No more than one (1) Officer of the EWMC can serve from the same Local Union. (Added 1/93)

2003 Scholarrship

The EWMC will award its third annual scholarship to the child of a member in good standing of the National EWMC at the 14th Annual National Meeting in New York. The meeting will be held January 15 - 18, 2004. A scholarship candidate must be the child of a National EWMC member and a high school student who has graduated or will graduate in 2003. A copy of the diploma or a letter from the high school confirming graduation in 2003 must be attached to the scholarship request.

Scholarships are approved for enrollment in a State certified trade school or a college certified by the Department of Education and accredited by the local accrediting association.

Only those scholarship request letters mailed to the EWMC at PO Box 642, El Cerrito, CA 94530 by certified, return receipt mail and postmarked no later than Decemeber 31, 2003, will be eligible for consideration for the 2003 scholarship.
