Mission Statement: The LU 18 of EWMC of Los Angeles, CA pledges to embrace the diversity of our membership and our community. We will provide leadership and training opportunities for our member leaders through projects that uplift others, and give back to the community. The LU 18 EWMC members are committed to ensuring that each task we accomplish will leave a tremendous, positive and lasting impact on our local communities as well as to help identify and develop leaders among our membership.
Here is a partial list of some of our accomplishments for 2018 and we hope to have many more before the year's end:
Our chapter worked with Belmont and Jordan High School in Los Angeles, CA to donate over 175 backpacks with school supplies. The two schools were chosen because they reside in low-income communities and needed the basic necessities.
We worked with an organization called “Operation Gratitude” where we completed 1,000 holiday cards to send to deployed troops, veterans, new recruits, and first responders. This organization sends care packages to our heroes, and the cards are included so they can have a voice from home. Some send prayers and even get a pen pal. We are also asking our members to bring us their leftover Halloween candy to send to the troops overseas through Operation Gratitude.
Hosted a public speaking fundamental workshop where members learned about the “Three R’s” in prepping for any type of public speaking, how to improve your visual appearance as a public speaker, and avoiding the top 10 mistakes all public speakers make.
We donate two 500 dollar scholarships to EWMC members or their children who are currently in school.
We hosted a See’s Candy drive and donated all the revenue to a Woman’s Shelter in Pasadena, California.
Spoke to members and distributed voter registration cards
Attended the 2018 Women’s conference e in St. Paul, Minnesota
Provided breakfast to two senior citizen centers (Over 100 seniors ) daily for a week in Watts, California
