Its with great sadness...
Updated On: May 24, 2018

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of former IBEW LU 3 Business Manager and IBEW Treasurer Emeritus Thomas Van Arsdale. Our condolences go out to the Van Arsdale family and the members of IBEW Local 3. Brother Van Arsdale not only served the membership of Local 3 and the IBEW but also the labor movement. I had the opportunity to work in New York City when Brother Van Arsdale was business manager in 1986 -’87. I was treated very well and felt at home. I’m sure that it was because of the environment and climate that BM Van Arsdale promoted.

I can say that because years later when, as a business representative for Local 48, I met Tommy in New York he was friendly and welcoming. He insisted that you call him Tommy and treated you as if you were family.

Even though Tommy had the big shoes of his father to fill, he filled them and left his own mark. Brother Van Arsdale continued the strong leadership and responsibility that is the hallmark of Local 3 without missing a beat.

We of the EWMC mourn Thomas Van Arsdale in death but will forever be thankful for his influence and support of the EWMC in a life of purpose, well lived. Please keep his family in your prayers.

     In Solidarity,

    Keith Edwards

     EWMC President
