Greater Kansas City EWMC Report

 February 10, 2018 we did a follow up from IDOS 2017, we replaced light fixtures at the VFW Memorial Post 5844 in Holden, Missouri. The month of February, March and April we collected signatures for Proposition A (RTW).Attended rallies at IBEW Local Union 124 Hall and Jefferson City, Missouri.Canvassing and phone banking for Proposition A repealing (RTW).

 June 9, 2018 we had a Golf Tournament.  We partnered with other IBEW Local Unions and Building Trades collected signatures.  We also had a fund raiser to help offset the cost to send members to the 2019 EWMC Conference.

June 16, 2018 Juneteenth Celebration, 18th and Vine.  Collected signatures and voter registration with NAAC for the Primary's and Midterm Election.  We attended a rally for Claire McCaskill for US Senate.We attended a rally for Stacey Johnson Cosby running for 6th District at Large for Kansas City, Missouri council on June 18, 2018.

 EWMC members and IBEW 124 collected money for DAD's Against Diabetes (DADs) on June 16, 2018. We attended a rally for Emanuel Cleaver in July.  United States House of Representative 5th Congressional District/Congressional Black caucus.

Collected signatures for Proposition A repealing (RTW) canvassing and phone banking. In August, Missouri Primaries, we were able to repeal Right To Work (RTW) and we also want to thank the EWMC Chapter from California for helping us with the canvassing.  The vote was 2/1.

 "Iron Sharpens Iron" Men's Conference on August 17-18, 2018.  Gave out information about the Trades two day event.Union Picnic IBEW Local Union 124 September 15, 2018.  We had a Raffle, Fund Raiser and Member Drive.  Two new members joined EWMC.  Partnership with Job with Justice on Amendment 1, Lobbying Campaign Finance Initiative Fight Back Against Political

Corruption. We attended a rally for Missouri House of Representative 17th District Mark Ellebracht and canvassed. We attended a Fund Raiser for Frank White and Proposition B to increase minimum wage.  Phone banking and canvassing October and November at Union Hall for Midterm.

EWMC members went to:

  • NAACP Banquet October 13, 2018.
  • November 4, 2018 Job Forum in Lee's Summit, Missouri.
  • November 17, 2018 IDOS, we had 4 Projects and 12 members totaling 90 man hours.

One of the projects, "Journey To A New Life"   will be a partnership with them in the near future.  

"Journey To A New Life" works to remove road blocks and restore opportunity to those re-entering society after prison.
